CFDA, SE是一種可對活細胞進行熒光標記的細胞染色試劑，不僅用于細胞增殖的體外實驗,也可用于追蹤細胞在體內的分裂增殖過程。它穿透細胞膜進入細胞后被細胞內的酯酶催化分解成CFSE，CFSE可以偶發性地并不可逆地與細胞內的氨基結合偶聯到細胞蛋白質上。在細胞分裂增殖過程中，CFSE 標記熒光可平均分配至兩個子代細胞中，因此其熒光強度是親代細胞的一半，用流式細胞儀或熒光顯微鏡在490 nm 激發光處可對其進行分析。CFDA, SE標記后的細胞用于體內觀察可以長達數周。因此，CFDA, SE常被用來做活細胞檢測實驗和用熒光電鏡觀察細胞長期活動的實驗。CFDA, SE標記的細胞的激發的發射波長分別為500nm和520nm。
